Stuffed Daylilies

  • 1 package of salmon fillets
  • 1 8oz container of cream cheese, softened at room temperature
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, cored and diced
  • Salt and pepper

I sauteed the salmon in a little olive oil and pepper until it was cooked through and then flaked the fillets. I added the cream cheese and diced apples and added a touch of salt and pepper to taste. Once it was all mixed up I spooned it into the chilled flowers.

Are all day lilies edible? We have wild orange ones in the backyard. I don’ t know the species they came with us from Minnesota when we moved here.

Not all daylilies, the specialized cultivars are not recommended for eating, but those orange daylilies came in with the Pilgrims and were considered a food item. They have since naturalized throughout the country and are now considered a wildflower here in the U.S. But they are not indigenous. Eat away, they are wonderful!
